When a fellow VCVanner is in need, you just step up. This was apparent at the 20th annual. A VCVanner was having difficulty even getting to the Branson campsite due to overheating issues. He was traveling with his family of young and old. He was communicating his difficulties while on the way and eventually arrived. Once he was there, VCVC members responded. A spontaneous outpouring of support for assistance developed. Replacement radiators were sent from 100's of mile away, labor and diagnosis was provided. We did everything we could to aid our fellow VCVanner and his family. Here's a Vintage Chevy Van Club member standing in the doghouse of the stricken Vintage Chevy Van. He's installing a donated radiator. Gitter done! The club rallied to support a member in need. In return, nothing was asked for or expected. This is how the VCVC walks it. It's just the 2%.
If you are this far into our website then you really are in deep. Since the link you are following is an opinion page, you must want to know more about our opinion (and attitude) so I'll share with you more deeply how I feel. First, the Vintage Chevy Van Club is very near and dear to my heart, more on that later. I must say that they are not directly associated with this website even though I have taken a name similar to them. Thanks to 65Dream flagging me down at an intersection while I was driving my 67, I came to know about the VCVC website. On the VCVC website, I found a group of kindred spirits that shared my passion for these VCVans. I had thought that I was the only one that felt deeply about these ole gals. I posted on the website and learned about the the other members through posts, emails, and parts dealings. When the opportunity came up to actually meet many of these members, I jumped at the chance. The opportunity came up at the 20th annual VCVC anniversary at a campground in Missouri. I was all over it. I decided that I was going to be there and was going to serve, literally, as in food. This was a campground setting with a motel very close by. Now I've been camping many times before (back in the day) with my family of six children so I knew that to truly enjoy camping, you had to eat well. Being an overachiever, I would work toward the goal of having the attending members eat like kings. To accomplish this goal I needed camping gear so I loaded every piece of camping gear I owned into my 69 WedgieVan, then I bought more. When I was done loading up the WedgieVan, it was carrying over 2,000# of gear according to the weight certificate from the truck stop. Clearly, the presumed 1,000# weight rating of the WedgieVan was overloaded by 2X but it handled it fine. I planned to be the first one to arrive and the last one to leave. I planned to set up camp a day before anyone else arrived and was prepared to cook meals free of charge. I planned to buy the food, cook it up and give it away to anyone that showed up hungry. Attitude. My attitude was; so you're here at the VCVC 20th and you're hungry? Hi, I'm a VCVC member and I'm here to feed you. There's the plates, utensils and food. If you're here and hungry then I guess you're in the right place at the right time. Breakfast and dinner, no charge. I didn't ask permission of the organizer or ask for help, monetary or otherwise. I was there to demonstrate an attitude toward the club. I was there to say THANK YOU! I knew that with all the individual campsites, that each member would, at mealtime probably migrate back to their own reserved spot to cook up their meals. Imagine every campsite going private during mealtimes. Now imagine every attending member gathering at mealtimes without having to worry about cooking or breaking off conversations with fellow members in order to cook. Instead of breaking apart at every meal, we gathered. We didn't have to concern ourselves with cooking, cleaning dishes or interrupting conversations with fellow members. Just feed them, pretty simple idea. At first they didn't get it, free food twice a day but they're a pretty smart bunch and they caught on fast. It was a joy to see members gathering in the common area of the campground instead of splitting up to their own campsites. While I had high expectations for what I could do alone, I had help from other members. Without their help, I would not have been able to pull this off. First is FreakyTikiTV and second is StayPuffed. Both of these members made it possible to fulfill my ambition to serve the club. Without them, I would have surely failed. Thank you to both Bill and Mike for stepping up to make my vision a reality. many other members contributed in ways large and small. Mostly, they contributed by making the time to show up. Others spent countless hours cleaning, buying more food and helping to clean up. The result was that the members enjoyed each others company during meals and I feel that it contributed to a more successful event. For more information on this event, check out these links.

I was the last one to leave. I had spent a bunch of money that I didn't have on a group of people that I'd never met and may never meet again. I pushed myself so hard that it took me days to recover enough to drive home. I had the time of my life and was honored to do it. I plan on doing it again.
The links will be made operational later.
More pics and information on this gathering will be published soon.

Originally, he was just looking to get to the event and I was his 4th choice to get there. Little did I know that he knew how to do camping and cookouts far better than I did. He grilled a lot of wings, bought a lot of beer and busted his ass every day of the event to make it all work out. He was my right hand on this endeavor.
Here's a member that just showed up volunteering to do Kitchen Patrol (wash dishes). I soon realized that he knew far more about how to serve than Freaky and me put together. He made us look like we actually knew what we were doing. I can't say enough about the leading role he played to make this all actually work.
President and founder of the Vintage Chevy Van Club. It was a real pleasure to see him free to talk to members and make the event a real success.
